Collected Stories
March 7, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$17.50 – $20
What stories are yours to tell? What happens when the student surpasses the teacher? Can there be resolution? Collected Stories exposes the conflict between the established artist Ruth Steiner and the adulatory fan Lisa Morrison, who becomes a protege, disciple, colleague and friend – and finally threatening rival as Lisa cannibalizes Ruth’s life experiences, revealing her youthful, shattering affair with poet Delmore Schwartz. Inspired by the 1994 literary scandal in which Stephen Spender accused American novelist David Leavitt of plagiarizing his 1951 novel World Within World. Tempest examines the relationship of teacher/student and questions of artistic freedom, ethics of the writer, and the responsibility of friendship in its performance of Donald Margulies’ Collected Stories.
